  1. Welcome to 7th Grade Math Mr. Bryan Mrs. Daniels

  2. Expectations • Be respectful – Be respectful to one another. Each individual in the classroom deserves to be treated with respect and they should be addressed or answered in an appropriate tone with the use of appropriate language. • Be responsible – Bring all necessary materials to class. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to arrange to make up missing work. I will not chase after you and nag for assignments.

  3. Expectations Cont. • Be ready – When you enter the classroom you should be ready to work. We have a lot of knowledge to gain this year. If everyone puts forth the effort we will get more accomplished. • We expect everyone to succeed in the seventh grade and be ready to tackle eighth grade and beyond. You can do it if you believe it.

  4. Philosophy In order to become skilled in math you must learn how and why mathematics works. Anyone can remember and use an algorithm, but this does not allow you to take that algorithm and use it in other situations. Students must understand mathematics in a way that they can think through any problem provided the right set of tools.

  5. Pencils Unless otherwise instructed, math in Mr. Bryan’s class will always be completed in pencil. You will have to erase in this class. One cool thing about your math class is that you are allowed to make mistakes. This is how we learn, however your paper will not be filled with crossed out work because you could not erase ink.

  6. Math Journals & Binders • Math journals will be used for note taking, projects, and reflections. This is where you will keep everything you will need to be successful in this class. • Binders will be used for homework and class work handed out by Mr. Bryan. It will also be a place to keep returned work.

  7. Group Work There will be multiple times throughout the school year where you will work in groups. You will be expected to know how to work with others as you advance through school and later on in life. Each member of the group is expected to participate.

  8. Homework and Class Work These assignments will be given throughout the units. As of now no more than two homework assignments will be given during a one week period. The homework will normally be due the next day unless more time is needed to complete the assignment. If homework or class work is missed it is your responsibility to let me know so you can receive the materials you need to complete the assignments.

  9. Phone If you need to use the phone ask for permission. You may not use a personal phone to make calls.

  10. Bathroom There will be a sign out/sign in sheet by the door. After asking for permission you will go to the door sign out, take the bathroom pass, and proceed to the restroom. When entering the room you will quietly sign back in, return the pass, and return to your seat.

  11. Fire Alarm • Quietly get out of your seat and line up at the door. • The first person in line will take the class lists and green/red cards. • You will then exit the room, go straight across to the stairs, go down to the basement level and exit through the doors to the field in the back of the school.

  12. Tornado • Quietly get out of your seat and line up at the door. • We will all line up at the lockers to our left in the correct position.

  13. Lockdown • Quietly get out of your seat and move to the back and side walls away from the door. • One person will slip the green card under the door and all students will remain QUIET until another announcement is made.

  14. Curriculum Quarter 1: • Unit 1: Operations with Rational Numbers and Applications. (20 days) • Unit 2: Expressions, Equations, and Applications. (21 days)

  15. Curriculum Quarter 2: • Unit 3: Proportional Reasoning and Relationships. (38 days) Quarter 3: • Inferences About Populations (20 days) • Probability: Simple and Compound (19 days)

  16. Curriculum Quarter 4: • Unit 6: Geometry (25 days)

  17. Rules • Enter class room quietly. • Always raise your hand to be recognized before speaking. • Be respectful of others and do not talk while they are talking. • If it is not yours, do not touch it. • Do not talk during announcements. • Keep your hands to yourself.

  18. Rules Cont. • Cell phones should be turned off and out of sight unless they are being used for class work. • If you are finished with an assignment be aware that others may still be working. Sit quietly or read a book.
