  2. Project Overview • Auto sampler with specified features • CO2 flow system • In line safety bottle • Flushing system • Sample mixing/stirring • Heat control • Interface with mass spectrometer

  3. Design Change and Rationale • Radical change in design, due to refined scope from outside advisor. • Needed to add heat control and stirring mechanism • After further research into part cost, previous designs greatly exceeded budget • New design is simplified, requires slightly more human interaction, but meets the needs of project scope much better

  4. Method of Operation

  5. Solenoid Valve • 2-Way Solenoid Valve • Closed when off • PTFE (Teflon) • Designed for gases

  6. Septa Bottle Tops • Re-sealable septa bottle tops (Teflon) • Needle puncture • Inlet/outlet design • Works in conjunction with valving system

  7. Magnetic Stirring • 10 zones • Heat plate, with temperature control kept at 37 degrees Celsius • Up to 1100 RPM, will be kept at 200 RPM

  8. Engineering Challenges • Software interface • Assembly, due to high tolerance, and sensitive parts • Straight line motion of the enclosure top • Test needle gauge by puncturing septa top and determining if sticky pad will hold bottles • Staying in budget
