Rhode Island’s Statewide Assessment - NECAP • Assessment designed to measure content & skills on our GSEs • NECAP – New England Compact Assessment Program (RI-NH-VT) • Given to 11th graders in October over 6 days (90 minute tests) • Reading – Writing – Math • Part of state accountability system under No Child Left Behind

Benefits of the State Assessment Program • Promotes and encourages reflection and discussion on curriculum and instruction • Encourages faculty interaction and curricular integration • Promotes and encourages accountability to Standards-based Instruction aligned to the Grade Span Expectations • Opportunity to investigate possible curriculum strengths and weaknesses

Scoring the NECAP Assessment • Achievement Level: 4 = Proficient with Distinction 3 = Proficient 2 = Partially Proficient 1 = Substantially Below Proficient • Scale Score (Math & ELA) • 00 to 80 (with an “11” in front of the score) • 1140 needed to achieve Proficient performance • Total Points (Writing) • Two scorers score on a 1 to 6 writing rubric • Maximum points = 12; score of 7 is Proficient.

  20. NECAP Reading1’s READING: 11 Students • Will remain enrolled in Literacy/Reading program • Will retake the NECAP reading exam in October (and possibly March) • They will need to improve based upon RIDE sliding scale.

NECAP Math 1’s Mathematics: 131 Students • 71 students scored with one or two questions of a NECAP 2 • 60 students require more remediation • Will be enrolled in a Senior Math course • May be half year or whole year for students • Possible summer institute • Possible after school support during 2013 • Possible alternative tests • They will need to improve based upon RIDE sliding scale.
