  2. What is Personal Hygiene? • Personal Hygiene- • Is a form of protection from illness • Washing your hands • Covering your nose and mouth when you sneeze • Bathing daily • Keeping your dorm room clean • Washing dishes, towels and clothes, keeping all clean

  3. Bathe: • At least once per day • Use deodorant • Put on clean clothes daily • Wear clean under garments • Wear clean socks • Wash your hair • Shave facial hair • Shave your legs and under arms

  4. Signs and Symptoms: • Cystitis- an infection of the bladder, usually caused by sex, urinating after sex can help wash out any bacteria • Thrush- often from antibiotics; soaps or detergents, use mild soapsand unperfumed toilet tissue • Body Smells- caused by chemicals in sweat, pheromones that are made by the body

  5. Signs and Symptoms: • Bad Breathe- halitosis, brush your teeth at least 2 times daily, floss, use a mouth wash, and flavored gum • Avoid- Garlic and Onions • Regular Checkups- at the dentist for cleaning, repair, etc…

What can I do? • Hand Washing- most infections (colds and gastroenteritis) are caught when we put unwashed hands in our mouth • When to Wash Hands- after going to the bathroom, before eating or making food; after handling pets, when touching a door knob, taking out garbage, when touching another person or object

  7. What Can I do? • Proper Hand Washing- apply soap and water to hands and arms, wash vigorously for 20 to 30 seconds, using a nail brush if your nails are dirty, dry with a disposable towel and use a pedal garbage can and open the door with your towel, anything you touch has germs on it

  8. Play it Safe when Going off to College: • Follow Common Sense Rules- to keep belongings and the dorm room clean, practice good hygiene to stay healthy
