  1. Coping with Pet Bereavement

  2. When a pet first comes into your life, it feels like they will be there forever. You can’t remember what life was like before them and can’t imagine life without them. The sad thing is, house pets just don’t have the lifespan we do and inevitably, there will come a time where you have to say goodbye.

  3. Whether the death is sudden, accidental, expected or planned through euthanasia really won’t make a difference to the heartache you will feel. Losing a pet, no matter the circumstances, can be on par with losing another close human companion.

  4. As much as your mind might try to tell you there is a difference, your heart will say otherwise; and you will grieve according to your heart.

  5. The pain may be fierce, come in waves, or be offset by emotions of anger or guilt; but it will be real and it will be hard. Allow yourself to grieve as you need and do not feel ashamed or embarrassed by how much you are hurting.

  6. Enlist the support of family and friends – you may need a shoulder to cry on, an open ear, or someone to just sit by your side. Those that love you will understand and be there for you.

  7. You will likely feel the need to commemorate the life of your dear pet. Do what feels right. Some people simply frame a photo or create an album while others hold memorial services, plant trees or make a charitable donation in their pet’s name. There are many ways to pay tribute to the life of your pet.

  8. Memorial stones are a lasting tribute to honor the life of your animal companion. This is a real, beautiful keepsake with your pet’s name, photo or clip-art graphic and small epitaph etched in real stone.

  9. Perfect for the burial site at the pet cemetery or as a memento kept in your home or garden, memorial stones offer a lasting legacy of your pet. They are made to withstand weather and time and therefore, are a permanent marker of your pet.

  10. No matter how you grieve or memorialize, be sure to keep your pet forever in your mind and heart. They were a significant part of your life, they brought love and joy and companionship to you and others every single day for years; remember that and cherish it.

  11. Don’t act like they never were – that doesn’t do their memory any justice. If you want to keep their spirit alive, live with it every day.
