Pressure
The atmosphere is composed of various gases including oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, hydrogen, and water vapor, along with trace elements. Gravity is the force that holds these particles, which possess mass, in place. The Earth's atmosphere is divided into layers. The troposphere, extending from 0 to 10 km, is where we experience daily weather and climate. Above that lies the stratosphere, which ranges from 10 to 50 km, containing the ozone layer that protects us from harmful ultraviolet radiation. Understanding these layers is crucial for studying atmospheric science.
