History of Saco Junior Trojans Football 2000 – First Year As Head Coach Grades 7-8: Saco Middle School Issues: No Say In Hiring Process No Community Pride – Bobcats: Blue & Gold Grades 3-8: Saco Youth Football Issues: Too big of age groups (Grades 3-5 / Grades 6-8) Allowed SMS to play in both leagues. *102 Players Participating In Grades 3-8*

  3. History of Saco Junior Trojans Football • Year Event • 2000-2001 Tried Working with SMS & SYF to make changes. No luck.2002 Began Saco Youth Travel Football – 6th Grade Group • 2003 Added 7th Grade Group (3 Leagues – SMS, SYF, SYTF) • SMS Middle School Eliminated Budget Cuts • Started 2nd & 5th Grade Program • Changed Name To Saco Junior Trojans (Grades 2, 5-8) • Started 3rd & 4th Grade Program (Grades 2-8) • Saco Youth Football Merged With Saco Junior Trojans • Added Cheering Component To League • First Year of Saco Junior Trojans Football We Had 24 Players • For Five Years We Had Two Youth Programs In Our Community

  4. Saco Junior Trojans Mission Statement Our goal is to build a sense of continuity, consistency, and pride throughout the entire Saco, Dayton, and Arundel youth community football program. We do not want a collection of teams working independently of each other. If we are going to be consistently successful, every level of football in our community has to be on the same page and working towards the same goals.

Stay Updated On Most Recent Trends In Youth Football and Vision For Future We will set the standard for success in our league. Our opponents will use us as the barometer.

Saco Junior Trojans Football Principles Principle #1: Great Organizational Culture That Is Transparent and Collaborative League By Laws – Follow Them / Update Them / Lawyer Review Head Coaches – Voted In / Assistant Coaches Travel w/Player League Board Meetings * November After Last Game: Wrap Up/Equipment/Banquet * January: Elect New Board Positions/New Season Details * July: Elect Coaches/Finalize Upcoming Season Give Parents w/Kid In League a Voice *Attend Board Meetings – Make remarks during open forum. *Vote For Coaches *Great Recruiting Tool For Empty Board Positions

Saco Junior Trojans Football Principles Principle #2: Teach Fundamental Football Skills In a Positive, Safe, Fun Environment Heads Up Tackling Certified – Teach Other Coaches/Online Option Protocols – Concussion / Heat & Hydration / Equipment Fitting Teach Fundamentals First – Schemes a Distance Second Fundamentals Taught Through Age Division Circuits – All Players *Coaches Become Experts For One or Two Drills (Redundancy) *Allows Players From Different Teams To Practice Together *Keeps Players Moving – Very Little Standing Around *Players Become Very Fundamentally Sound NO FULL CONTACT DURING PRACTICE – Teach Tackling Through Drills
