Learning Targets: • I can explain how the tilt of the Earth's axis results in seasons. • I can compare and contrast the composition of Earth's atmospheric layers and greenhouse gases. • I can compare and contrast the geocentric and heliocentric models of the universe. • I can explain the Earth's motion based on the formation of the galaxy and solar system. • I can compare and contrast the planets in our solar system. • I can compare and contrast the characteristics, composition, and location of comets, asteroids, and meteoroids. • I can develop and use a model to demonstrate the phases of the moon by showing the relative positions of the sun, Earth, and moon.

Instructional Activities • Activity 1 Students will complete a graphic organizer of the differences • between heliocentric and Geocentric ideas of the solar system. • Activity 2 Students will complete workbook pages related to Ch. 19 • Activity 3 Students will create a foldable model to compare and contrast terrestrial planets and gas giants. Activity 4 Students will complete work book pages to information in Ch. 19 Activity 5 Students will take a posttest for unit 5 and pretest for unit 6. Activity 6 students will complete quickdraw for vocabulary related to the solar system. Activity 7 students will make a model of a lunar and solar eclipse.
