Intro • We’ve always balanced the energy gain between BC1 and BC2 so that BC1 is higher gradient (~4 MeVcf ~2 MeV from BC2) so that the beam reaches relativistic velocities sooner. • However, there was an idea that reducing the BC1 energy gain would reduce the “energy drop” at the first cell and any possible adverse effects this may bring.

  3. BC1 phasescan Blue = low gradient BC1 Red = nominal gradient BC1

  4. Phasespace at min. energy spread Blue = low gradient BC1 Red = nominal gradient BC1 BC1 only, no BC2
