  1. Welcome Mentors! Student Teaching Orientation December 4, 2018

  2. Welcome! Let’s introduce ourselves! • Name • What do you want to get out of the next hour? • What do you need to know? • What are you most excited about?

  3. Mentor Teachers What does it mean to be a mentor? What anxieties or challenges do you foresee?

  4. Student Teaching Experience • Student teaching is min of 12 weeks basically they are “working” as a teacher under your mentorship. • Seminar will be weekly • Elementary students may need to leave early to arrive to campus by 4:00 • Secondary starts at 4:30 • Teacher candidates evaluated using the Charlotte Danielson Framework (Talk about later) • Dispositions assessment

Mid-Term and Final Evaluation • Regular formative feedback is encouraged (all the time) • Danielson Framework • Scoring criteria • Expectations at Mid-Term and Expectations at Final • Preponderance of evidence and generating notes • Consensus Meeting for Mid-Term (sometime between week 6 and 8; for final sometime between week 13-15 • Questions

  7. Dispositions • What are dispositions? • Issues and concerns; communicate with supervisor • Formal Disposition Evaluation week 6-8 • Scoring criteria • Expectations • Entering data into Tk20 • Questions

  9. Tk20 Tk20 is our tool that allows you to submit your Professional Dispositions online. It is evaluations made simple.

Evaluations Made Easy • Be on the lookout for an email with your Tk20 username and password. • Log in at https://tk20.umflint.edu • To access your students’ Professional Dispositions evaluation, Click the ‘Field Experience’ tab on the right. • We will always email you instructions to complete it. • If you need support, contact us!

  11. Stages of Concern for Teacher Candidates • Read the 4 stages of concern on your handout • How do these resonate with you? Do they seem accurate based on your experience with student teachers or as a student teacher?

  12. Discussion In your table group: • Review and discuss information presented and your individual questions • What support do you need from UM-Flint? • Identify any lingering thoughts/questions • Please add any new questions to your list that have come up from your group After a few minutes we will ask each group to share bits of their discussion.

  13. Mentor Meetings • Would you like to stay in touch as a group this semester? If so, how? • Virtually via social media or video chat • Meetings on campus • Meetings at your school with just the mentors in your district?
