  2. Introduction • Created in April 2007 by David Karp • Headquarters in Midtown Manhattan, New York City • Karp named Best Young Tech Entrepreneur in 2009 • Most popular with teen and college-aged user segments • Half of Tumblr'svisitor base is under the age of 25 • Used by many celebrities • As of February 27, 2012, had over 46.2 million blogs

  3. What is it? • Social Network & Microblogging Site • Social Network- online service, platform, or site that focuses on facilitating the building of social networks or social relations among people who, share interests, activities, backgrounds, or real-life connections. • Microblogging-broadcast medium in the form of blogging. • Like a blog, but the content is smaller in actual & aggregate file size • Allows users to share content such as: text, photos, quotes, links, and videos, but connects people with similar interests by allowing people to follow pages, chat, and comment on “like” or share content that others have posted • Post about a variety of topics called a “tumblelog” (short-form blog) • Create profiles that you can edit and personalize

  4. Integrating into social media • Users can automatically post from/to other social networks sites using the “reblog” button like Facebook, Twitter, Digg, & Youtube, making it more friendly and desirable for users. • Images and files link users different websites and information about topics and information.

  5. Possible use in business marketing plan • It’s a growing site so there is a lot of future potential for an even larger market of consumers a possible business could advertise to. • According to a November 2011 study, Tumblr users spend more time on the site than Twitter, Myspace, Linkedin, and Google+ combined; allowing for more possibilities to view advertisements. • Users looking for relevant topics find your business’sTumblr page making it one click away from your website or blog, which can lead your interested audience into learning more about your company with direct links to products, services, offers, and promotions. • Tumblr also has potential to create unintentional brand recognition for companies (ex: cars, clothes, products shown in images)

  6. Example of unintentional brand recognition

  7. Unique • Tumblr’simages and files are available to everyone and not just members, so anyone can see anything on the website. • Tumblris integrated with Google Analytics, so keywords can be monitored to see what’s interesting and what’s not, helping the site stay relevant. • Mainly, Tumblr is a blogging site where people post images and files based on many topics whereas other sites are more focused on social networking. • https://www.tumblr.com/
