  1. Homo Habilis By Karla, Cassidy, Jeremy, and Todd

  2. Introduction • In this PowerPoint presentation, you will learn a lot of new things about Homo Habilis, such as how they used fire, how they made their shelter, how they “talked,” how their faces looked, how they made their tools, and many more things! So, just sit back, relax, and enjoy our Homo Habilis presentation. ENJOY!

  3. Fire • Homo Habilis did, in fact, have fire. They had fire that occurred naturally, like from a lightning strike, but could not make fire on their own. They used fire for cooking, scaring animals, and for light at night (1)

  4. Shelter Homo Habilis constructed simple huts made of branches that were held in place by stones. These simple, dome-shaped huts would have protected them from animals and wind. (2)

  5. Tools • Homo Habilis used rock as hammers. They also used large sticks for getting the meat out of a dead animal. (3)

  6. Language • Some scientists believe that Homo Habilis was not capable of speech; therefore, they probably communicated using some primitive gestures and simple sounds. (4)

  7. Food • The food that the Homo Habilis ate were food from the ground and fruit. They also hunted for small animals to eat, and they sometimes took bird eggs to eat. (5)

  8. Were they lived • Homo Habilis lived in Africa, 2.3 and 1.4 million years ago. (6) Despite what you may see on television or in movies, dinosaurs were extinct long before hominids existed.

  9. The Face • Homo Habilis had a more rounded skull than an Australothicus did. It’s face was smaller, longer, and narrower. Furthermore, the jaw was lighter, and the teeth were slightly smaller than that of Australopithecus. (7)

  10. Questions • Describe how Homo Habilis used fire. • Where and when did Homo Habilis live? • What tools did Homo Habilis make and use? • What foods did Homo Habilis eat?
