  3. 1. World War One Also known as the GREAT WAR & the War to End all Wars! 1914-1918

  4. 2. Militarism When countries compete for bigger & better militaries.

  5. 3.Alliance System a group of nations working together to achieve a certain goal

  6. 4.autocracy a government that has unlimited power, absolute control

  7. 5. Neutrality/Isolationism ***the approach that the U.S. took during the initial years of WW1 Staying out of conflict

  8. 6.Woodrow Wilson U.S. President that attempted to keep us out of the War.

  9. 7. Propaganda Spreading information to get others to join a cause.

  10. 8. Liberty Bond ***A government bond that was sold in the U.S. to support the Allies during WWI. A Bond is when an individual lets the Government borrow money to support a cause. The Gov't always pays the money back plus a little more. Favorite Liberty Bond

  11. 9. pacifist a person who is opposed to war

  12. 10.dissent to disagree with the goals/method of a political party or government

  13. 11. Lusitania British Ship sunk by German U-Boats (Submarines) 200 Americans Killed on the ship! This is what made the U.S. Decide to join the war

  14. 12. Trench Warfare the WWI strategy that caused soldiers to have to eat, sleep, and die in the miserable ditches

  15. 13. Armistice Day November 11th, 1918 marked the end of WW1 With the Treaty of Versailles

  16. 14. Mandate A legal document that transferred the control of one country to another following World War I

  17. 15. League of Nations the organization set up after WWI to keep peace among nations . Pres. Wilson's Idea-- COULD NOT get the U.S. to join! *Just like the United Nations today! (UN)

  18. 16. Reparations Payback Germany was forced to pay for everything that went wrong in the war
