  18. Immunity Community is a public health campaign of Vax Northwest approved by the Northshore School District now in its second year at Arrowhead. Vax Northwest is a coalition of health care provider, nonprofit, and public health groups working to ensure all children and communities in Washington are protected from vaccine-preventable, life-threatening diseases. Partners include the Department of Health, Group Health, Community Pediatric Foundation of Washington, Within Reach and Seattle Children’s Hospital (http://www.vaxnorthwest.org). The Immunity Community program is meant to help protect the health of our Arrowhead community as well as the community in which we live by providing parents with reliable and accurate information about vaccines. Our school nurse Anne Janssen is also available to answer any questions about vaccinations at ajanssen@nsd.org or 425-408-4006. As a parent advocate and mom of a first grader at Arrowhead I’ll be helping to provide parents throughout the school year with periodic information about vaccines and the important role they play in keeping our community healthy. 65% of children are fully vaccinated by the age of three. The program was, in part, initiated because Washington state had one of the highest vaccine exemption rates for school-age children in the country at 4.5%. At some schools, it is 10% or higher. The goal? The vaccination rate needed to achieve herd immunity varies by disease, but usually falls between 85% and 95%. Immunity CommunityArrowhead Parent Advocate, Julie Krause
