  3. Consistency • Peter in Acts 10… • Peter in Galatians 2… • This inconsistency threatens the churches’ worship, fellowship and witness.

  4. Jerusalem Council • Paul and Barnabas come from Antioch, “When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and elders, to whom they reported everything God had done through them” (Acts 15:4).

  5. Jerusalem Council • Pharisee believers, “5 Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, “The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to obey the law of Moses.”

  6. Jerusalem Council • “Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. 8 God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us.” • (vs. 7, 8).

  7. Jerusalem Council • Read Acts 15:13-21.

  8. Basics #1 • James’ declaration is based on Scripture and experience (vs. 13-18).

  9. Basics #1 • Emotional thinkers need the stability of the word of God • Logical thinkers need the flexibility of seeing God in experience. • When we have both we make a difference for the kingdom of God.

  10. Basics #2 • Don’t make God difficult for others (vs.19).

  11. Basics #2 • My basics: • Jesus is the only Savior of the world. • Knowing Jesus will change me. • That change through the Holy Spirit will produce self sacrificing love in my life.

  12. Basics #2 • The four biggies: • Idolatry (meat offered to idols). • Blood (Genesis 9:4-6). • Meat from strangled animals. • Sexual immorality.

  13. Basics #2 • “The people (Gentiles) read it and were glad for its encouraging message” (vs. 31).
