  2. First American president elected with the full participation of women voters. 19th Amendment: Gave women the right to vote.

  3. Americans voted for Harding because they wanted change. Harding promised change. He spoke of: “returning to normalcy” Interpreted as a return to a life that was simpler- a life before war, and before the endless campaigns for social and moral reform.

  4. Harding was a man of his time: A fun loving fellow who liked his bootleg whiskey, poker, and a good cigar. He was a perfect fit for the decade of the “Roaring Twenties”

  5. Harding rarely spoke directly to the issues. He was much more inclined to skirt around the issue by responding vaguely or through unclear promises for the future

  6. Harding greatest flaw as president was his selection of a cabinet. Many of its members became involved in political deals and scandals.

  7. Through it all, Harding remained popular with the American people. They had voted for a hands-off president, and Harding played the role perfectly
