  2. 2013-14 Estimated Revenues • Approved 2012-13 Budget of $119.4M • Estimated 2013-14 Rollover Budget of $124M • Estimated 2013-14 Revenues of $117.2M • Gap $7M

  3. Trying To Bridge Some Of The Gap • With community approval via a transportation referendum, reduce transportation expenses • Some options are:

  4. Trying To Bridge Some Of The Gap Increase mileage ¼ mile in each category, i.e., K-5 (1.25 miles), 6-8 (1.5 miles) and 9-12 (1.75 miles); estimated net savings of $220K Adhere to New York State minimums; K-8 (2 miles) and 9-12 (3 miles); estimated net savings of $1.1M

  5. Trying To Bridge Some Of The Gap K-9 (2 miles) and 10-12 (3 miles); estimated net savings of $990K Eliminate all late buses; estimated net savings of $475K; this requires only board approval

  6. Trying To Bridge Some Of The Gap Do other districts provide late buses? Some do others don’t Do ( Public and Non-Public; Uniondale, Freeport, Mineola, Port Washington, Syosset, Jericho, Oceanside; Varying schedules) Don’t (Plainedge, North Shore, Franklin Square, Herricks and Garden City)

  7. Trying To Bridge Some Of The Gap Late Bus Ridership Measured from October 4-5 Total of 535 students Underutilized Ridership varies from September-June

Trying To Bridge Some Of The Gap Middle School (on 10-4 32 students on 3 late buses; on 10-5 71 students on 3 late buses) High School (on 10-4 128 students on 9 late buses; on 10-5 159 students on 9 late buses) Non-Public (on 10-4 86 students on 7 late buses; on 10-5 59 students on 7 late buses)

Trying To Bridge Some Of The Gap NICE bus routes N35 Grand Ave. and DeMott Ave. (every hour starting at 9:29AM and ending at 4:29PM; every hour starting at 5:24PM and ending at 8:24PM) Above stops at Grand Ave. and Merrick Rd. Above stops at Grand Ave. and Atlantic Ave. NICE bus pass at reduced rate ($2.00 instead of $2.25)

  10. Trying To Bridge Some Of The Gap Additional parking capacity for high school students is very limited Consideration of additional parking areas would affect athletic field space

  11. Trying To Bridge Some Of The Gap What might the possible proposition look like? Understandable, Clear and Concise Sample Proposition: Shall the Baldwin UFSD modify its public transportation eligibility effective at the beginning of the 2013-14 school year for Grades K-12 from the existing limits (K-5 1 mile; 6-8 1.25 miles and 9-12 1.5 miles) to new limits (TBD) with an estimated net savings of $TBD.
