  1. Suspect • A Suspect is a person named by the original patient (OP) during an interview who is not the OP’s sex partner; • Suspects are divided into three groups: • S-1 • S-2 • S-3

  2. Types Defined • S-1: has symptoms suggestive of disease; • S-2: is a sex partner of another person known to be infected; and • S-3: does notfit either of the other categories; needs an exam

  3. Associate • An associate is a person named in a cluster interview (by someone who is not infected); • Associates are divided into three groups: • A-1 • A-2 • A-3

  4. Cont. • A-1: has symptoms suggestive of disease; • A-2: is a sex partner of person known to be infected; and • A-3: does not fit either of the other categories; needs an exam
