  2. Prewriting • In this step of the writing process you brainstorm ideas for your writing. • During this step you determine • A word list for writing • Type of writing • Your audience • Your purpose

  3. Brainstorming Techniques • Freewriting • Clustering • Brainstorming • List Making & Scratch Outlining • Questioning • Reading Literature & Doing Research • Keeping a Journal (Discussion Board or Blog)

  4. Rough Draft • In this stage you MUST skip lines when writing. • During this stage you write without much attention to: • Punctuation • Grammar • Neatness • The purpose of this stage: • To get your ideas on paper

  5. Rough Draft • This stage is meant for your to get your ideas on paper without being afraid of making mistakes in: • Grammar • Capitalization • Punctuation • Paragraph Structure

  6. Peer Editing • In this stage you: • Share rough drafts • Make suggestions to each other for improvement • Help better understand writing by asking • Who • What • When • Where • Why • How • Look for better words to express ideas

  7. Revising • In this stage your use the suggestions from your classmates to: • Make additions to writing • Clarify details • Improve writing on your own

  8. Editing • During this stage you work with your teacher to: • Correct spelling • Correct punctuation

  9. Final Draft • During this stage you produce a copy of your writing with: • All corrections from the editing stage • Discuss the Final Draft with your teacher once all corrections have been made

  10. Publishing • This is the final stage of the writing process • In this stage you: • Make a final copy using your neatest handwriting • Make a final copy using word processing • Blog your final piece of writing

  11. Your Writing Assignment • You will be writing an essay about what your family does for the holidays (Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, etc.) • You will be completing and turning in each step of the writing process in class. • Each stage of the writing process will be a part of your grade.
