Strategy 1: Strengthen resources and infrastructure to support and facilitate research
NEW Graduate Scholarship Program • Students applying to the MBA Program, Global Development and Peace Program, or any program in our School of Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, Computer Science, and Computer Engineering) are eligible for this award. • All applicants will automatically be considered for a scholarship when they send in the University of Bridgeport application and all admissions materials. No additional form is needed. • Students who wish to be considered for a scholarship must submit a GRE or GMAT score. • There are three award amounts: $3,000, $4,000 and $5,000 per year. This award is based on the student’s academic achievement and test scores. • The scholarship will be for the international student’s first year of study. • All graduate students with a scholarship must take 9 credits per semester.

Colleges and Universities Rate Agreement The rates have been successfully negotiated with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This is the first time UB has established this agreement with the federal government since the late 1980s.

UB has a long history of collaboration with industry through sponsored research, as advisors to academic programs, and through UB's student co-ops, internships and work study experiences.
Industry Cooperative Education and Internships Program Guidelines UPDATED • Upon graduation, all International Students are eligible to obtain work experience in the U.S. for 12 to 29 months • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) designated degree program graduates can obtain work experience for up to 29 months in the U.S.

$2.4 million Hybrid Projectile Project String Dummy projectile with wireless camera Results of the dummy projectile with wireless camera in part led to the award of $2.4 to a consortium led by UB and the University of Hartford for the next phase of research.
UB Student Grants • The Connecticut Space Grant Consortium has awarded the following grants to UB students: • $5,000 UTC Summer Internship Grant to work at a ten week summer internship with Otis Elevator Company in the electrical and software standards group • $4,500 to build a lunar excavator that will be entered into the NASA Lunabiotics Mining Competition at Kennedy Space Center in Florida at the end of May 2010
A model of a lunar excavator designed by a team of UB engineering students. It will be built with funding from a Connecticut Space Grant College Consortium grant, and entered in NASA’s Lunabotics Mining Competition at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida at the end of May.
Other Sponsored Research Development • Nine research grant applications are pending, for a total of $1,426,440 • Seven research grant applications are under development, to be submitted by the end of the summer
Faculty Scholarly Works • More than 400 articles will be available to UB students through the new UB portal • Eight journal articles published to date for 2010 • 42 journal articles published in 2009 • 87 conference papers published by UB faculty in 2009
Academic Program Development • The new M.S. in Biomedical Engineering program already has an enrollment of more than 40 students • Newly developed courses: • Introduction to Nanotechnology • Fundamental Analysis of Nanomaterials • Nanofabrication with Soft Materials • Polymer Nanocomposites • Biomedical Materials and Engineering • Tissue Engineering • Fuel Cells • Sustainable Energy • Sustainable Energy Laboratory
