What we did in psychology • Web-based quizzing in the introductory class. • Used WebCT, existing software. • Also works with Blackboard, ANGEL, Perception, other packages • Use questions from the test bank provided by the publishers. • Does not take much faculty time to incorporate into the class • Low stakes quizzing weekly, allowing repeated attempts at randomized questions. • Another key element – few graphics
Results were very positive • Grades went up about 10% • DFW rate dropped from 28% to 19% • Student reaction is favorable • Concerns about lack of access • 1-2% complain about difficult access, no one indicates lack of access. • Use their own machines, a friends, the office, on campus. • When I asked, everyone in my classes say that access is not a real problem, but a matter of convenience. • Majority express wish that more classes were taught this way.
