  1. 1. What has Creon just discovered? What has Oedipus said about him? Creon discovered that Oedipus brought charges against him—that he was trying to take over the throne and say that he killed King Lauis

  2. 2. How does Oedipus react to Creon being at his home? What does he want to happen to Creon? Shocked & enraged. He wants him to die.

  3. 3. What does Creon say about being King? Why does he say this? That he doesn’t want to be king. He has all the glory in his position without any of the stress. Creonis pleading to save his own life.

  4. 4. Who enters and tries to end the fight? What do Creon and Oedipus do when this happens? Jocasta. They blame each other.

  5. 5. What story does Jocasta tell to calm Oedipus about prophecies? The prophecies could be wrong because King Laius avoided being murdered by his son and was killed by robbers.

  6. 6. Who does Oedipus send for to end his fear of killing Laius? The servant of King Laius (the servant that survived when King Laius was murdered).

  7. 7. Who are Oedipus’ parents? Polybus and Merope

  8. 8. Why does Oedipus go to Delphi? Because the drunk said he wasn’t his father’s son.

  9. 9. Why does Oedipus leave Corinth? So he doesn’t kill his father and marry his mom.

  10. 10. What happens with the group of people Oedipus encounters? They push him off the road, he fights back and then he kills them (the first one accidentally).

  11. 11. Why can the survivor from the murder of King Lauis put Oedipus’ fears to rest? Because he said it was a group of people, not just one man. Oedipus could not have been mistaken for a group.

  12. 12. What does the messenger tell Jocasta and Oedipus about Polybus? Why is this important? Polybus is dead of natural causes and Oedipus didn’t kill him.

  13. 13. What else does the messenger say about Oedipus and his relation to Polybus? That Polybus is NOT his father.
