  2. Description of element……… • Neon is a gas it is also a nonmetal. Its family name is called the nobal gas. It is used for signs, tiny neon lights and also antique regent flasks.

  3. WILLIAM Ramsay • William Ramsey was the founder of neon. He founded it in 1894.William was born in Glosaw ,Scotland. In 1880 William received oxford studentship for travel and research in Greece.

  4. Facts about neon • It is the second lightest inert gas in the world. • Its name was derived from the GREEK word neos ,meaning the ‘new one’ • Neon glows red when an electrically charge passed through. • Neon is the fourth most abundant element in the universe.

  5. Physical and chemical properties • Neon is a colorless gas • It has no Odor • It is a tasteless gas • It is chemically inactive • Neon is a rare gaseous element. It is present in the atmosphere to the extent of 1 part per 65,000 of air. Neon is obtained by liquefaction of air and separation using fractional distillation.

  6. Creation of neon • Stable forms of neon are produced in stars. It is created in fusing helium and oxygen in the alpha process, which requires temperatures above 100 megakelvin and masses greater than 3 solar masses.

  7. A few more facts • This is the boiling point of neon.27.1 K   (-246.0 oC) • This is the melting point 24.53 K   (-248.57 oC) • Liquid neon is used as a cryogenic refrigerant. • Neon is also used in high-voltage warning indicators, in Geiger counters and in television tubes. • When a few thousand volts is applied to neon, it emits an orange/red light.
