Definition of Needs and Requirements • What types of products to design for this system? -Devices to run on low DC power -Products in conjunction with Emerge DC power grid from ceiling -The device needs to be fairly light, consume little power, run on direct current, and provide some use to an office setting. -Example: Wireless Router Mounted to Ceiling
Definition of Needs and Requirements (Cont’d) • Problems Solved by System and Products • -No more unnecessary AC to DC Conversion • -Reduces Energy Wastes • -Saves Money • -Safer Low Voltage DC Power
Preliminary Ideas Movable/Rotatable Projector Projector integrated in Emerge System that could be mounted and rotated for more freedom of use. Wireless Router A router used to provide internet access to an office space. The router would be mounted in ceiling by DC supply.
Preliminary Ideas Ceiling Fan System of ceiling fans used to provide circulation and ventilation. System would run along DC grid. Movable Power Source A rechargeable battery used in conjunction with another device to provide power and motion simultaneously using sliding tracks.

Movable projector with battery • This would operate via linear slide. Any movement along this slide would have to be produced manually. • Projector can run with 12 V dc converted into 120 V ac
Final Selection: Movable Power Source(Projector) • The power source already runs on a slider (eMerge connector slide) this device would be easily adaptable. • Underneath the DC Power units that are movable, two metal tracks will run parallel to the track that the power source is on. • The sliding metal tracks will allow the projector to gradually move anywhere along these tracks. • The tracks will be suspended by overhead beams for support.
Final Selection: Movable Power Source(Projector) Full Isometric View of System
Final Selection: Movable Power Source (Projector) How does it work? • We are going to place two parallel linear bearings underneath the Emerge connector slide. • The bearings will be suspended overhead by supports that connect to the ceiling. Parallel beams below power source, would be connected to overhead supports.
Final Selection: Movable Power Source (Projector) • How does it work? -The beams are connected to the platform. -We will mount a projector to the sliding platform. The projector will need a converter to operate.
Final Selection: Movable Power Source (Projector) • A back-up battery will be attached to the projector to run the projector during movement.
Final Selection: Movable Power Source (Projector) • An insulated copper wire is attached to the battery and to the ceiling system via the Armstrong connector.

Tech Specs • Linear Bearings support from 50 to 1000 lbs of weight • Projector weighs no more than 10 pounds, but a small DC to AC converter must be used to power projector. This converter does not waste any power. • The low voltage DC power supply via wire will run to both the converter and to the back-up battery. • Back-up battery produces 12 V dc and has a life of up to 7 hours.
Value What benefit will this bring to a typical office? -Saves money: Fewer projectors would be needed -Versatile: Projector can be moved, rotated, and generally repositioned with ease -Simple to use: No special training would be needed for any part of using this device. -Could be used an any building type that required a projector.
Effects • Presentations would no longer be limited to one room. • Adjustments on focus and alignment would be simpler. • Saves money on energy and allows more to be done with less hardware.
