  9. Insert a SIM card 1 of 2 To install the SIM or USIM card and battery If the device is on, turn it off. To turn your device off, a) Press and hold End Key - b) Select Power off → OK. 1. Remove the battery cover. 2. Insert the SIM or USIM card. Place the SIM or USIM card in the device with the gold-coloured contacts facing up. • Without a SIM or USIM card inserted, you can use your device’s non-network services and some menus.

  11. Charge the battery Before using the device for the first time, you must charge the battery. 1. Open the cover to the multifunction jack on the top of the device. 2. Plug the small end of the travel adapter into the multifunction jack. With the triangle facing up

  12. Insert a memory card(optional) • To store additional multimedia files, you must insert a memory card. The GT-I5700 device • accepts microSD™ or microSDHC™ memory cards up to 32 GB (depending on memory card • Manufacturer and type). • Remove the battery cover. • 2. Insert a memory card with the label side facing down. • 3. Push the memory card in the memory card slot until it locks in place. • 4. Replace the battery cover.

Removing a memory card • Before removing a memory card, first unmount it for safe removal. • Open the application list and select Settings -> SD card & phone storage -> Unmount SD card under • SD card. • 2. Remove the battery cover. • 3. Push the memory card gently until it disengages from the device. • 4. Remove the memory card.

Home Screen – Customizing the Screen : Touch and Hold Add Widgets, Folders, Wallpapers • Shortcuts : Add shortcuts such as applications, a bookmarked web page, a favorite contact, etc. • Widgets : Add a clock, music player, a picture frame, the Google Search, etc. • Folders : Add a shortcut to all your contacts, contacts with phone numbers, or starred contacts. Contact detailed are automatically updated when there are changes in the source of data. • Wallpapers : Change the Home screen wallpaper. Touch and Hold in an area of the screen that is “empty” Box will Pop up; Select one 17

  27. : Touch Phone’s Storage Card as a USB Drive Turn on USB Storage Select “USB connected” Select “Mount” Done • When you select Mount, the phone will not recognize the storage card when it connected to a computer. You will not be able to use some of the phone’s applications such as Camera.

Phone’s Storage Card as a USB Drive : Touch Turn off USB Storage Select “Turn off USB storage” Select “Turn Off” If you want to use Samsung New PC Studio(or Kies), you need to activate the USB debugging mode in Settings - Applications - Development → USB debugging before connecting your device to a PC. 28

  29. Messaging Messaging View: Tap messaging on Home Screen to enter Touch to create a new SMS or MMS. Touch to open the message or message thread and read the SMS or MMS. 29

  30. : Touch Messaging – SMS Create new SMS Tap “New message” Enter a Phone Number Enter Text Message • As you near the 160-character limit, a counter will appear in the top right corner of the text box to tell you how much characters are left. Once you go over that limit, a new message is created but automatically joined into one when received.

Messaging – MMS : Touch Create new MMS Tap “New message” Enter a Phone Number Tap in compose area – Press Menu key - Select Add Subject or Attach Item Enter Text Message • Messaging automatically converts a SMS into a MMS when you entered an email address in the To field, added a message subject, or attached an item. 31

Connecting to the Internet - GPRS/3G/EDGE • Your phone will be automatically configured to use your wireless service provider’s GPRS/3G/EDGE service when you turn on your phone (if the SIM card is inserted) for the first time. • To check the network connection you are using • 1. Press HOME, then press MENU, and then touch Settings. • 2. Touch Wireless & networks> Mobile networks > Network operators or Access Point Names. • To create a new access point • When you need to add another GPRS/3G/EDGE connection • 1. Press HOME, then press MENU, and then touch Settings. • 2. Touch Wireless & networks> Mobile networks > Access Point Names. • 3. On the APNs screen, press MENU key and then touch New APN. • 4. In the Edit access point screen, enter the APN settings. Touch the APN setting item to edit it. • 5. Press MENU and then touch Save when you finish setting up the new APN. 32

  33. Connecting to the Internet - Wi-Fi (1) • Wi-Fi provides wireless Internet access over distances of up to 300 feet (100 meters). To use Wi-Fi on your phone, you need access to a wireless access point or “hotspot” • To turn Wi-Fi on and connect to a wireless network • 1. Press HOME, then press MENU, and then touch Settings > Wireless controls. • 2. Select the Wi-Fi check box to turn Wi-Fi on. The phone will scan for available wireless networks. • 3. Touch Wi-Fi settings. The network names and security settings (Open network or Secured with WEP) of detected Wi-Fi networks are displayed in the Wi-Fi networks section. • 4. Touch a Wi-Fi network to connect. When you selected an open network, you will be automatically connected to the network. If you selected a network that is secured with WEP, enter the WEP (security) key and then touch Connect.

Connecting to the Internet - Wi-Fi (2) • To check the wireless network status • Status bar • When your phone is connected to a wireless network, the Wi-Fi icon appears in the status bar and tells you the approximate signal strength • If Network notification in Wi-Fi settings is enabled, this icon appears in the status bar whenever the phonedetects an available wireless network within range. • 2. Wi-Fi networks • On the Wireless controls screen, touch Wi-Fi settings, then touch the wireless network that the phone is currently connected to. The Wi-Fi network name, status, speed, signal strength, security information, and IP address are displayed.

  35. Browser – Go to a web page To go to a web page • 1. On the Browser screen, press MENU 2. Enter the web page address using the keyboard. As you enter the address, matching web page addresses will appear on the screen. Touch an address to go directly to that web page or continue entering the web page address. 3. Touch Go.

  36. Browser – Zoom control To zoom in or out on a web page Zoom button Touch to zoom out Touch to zoom in • Slide your finger across the screen to activate the zoom controls.

  39. Browser – Manage bookmarks To bookmark a web page • 1. On a browser screen, go to the web page you want to book mark. 2. Press MENU key and then touch Bookmarks. The bookmarks screen opens. 3. On the Bookmarks tab, touch Add 4. Edit the bookmark Name if needed and then touch OK.

Browser – Windows To use a browser window Touch to close the web page Touch to open a new web page Touch to display the web page in full screen • Open multiple browser windows to make it easier for you to switch from one web site to another. You can open up to 8 browser windows. 1. On a browser window, press MENU key and then touch Windows 2. On the Current windows screen, touch the browser window you want to view. 3. To close a browser window, touch on the browser window you want to close.

While viewing a web page, press MENU Key and then touch More > Find on page. 2. Enter the search item. As you enter characters, matching characters will be highlighted in green. 3. Touch the left or right arrow to go to the previous or next matching item.

  47. Android Market – Installing an application Installing applications Download progress innotifications window. Once downloaded and installed,a notification appears. Touch to install • To install and open an application 1. Navigate to the item you want to download, and select it. 2. To install the item, select either Install (if item is free) or Buy, whichever appears. 4. To check the progress of the download, open the notifications window 5. After the item is downloaded and installed on your phone, the content download icon appears in the notification area of the status bar. 47

  48. Android Market – Purchasing an application Purchasing an application • To buy an application 1. Touch the application you want to buy. 2. At the bottom of the screen, touch Buy. 3. Select payment method – Use a credit card 4. If you are making a purchase for the first time, log in to Google Checkout™ payment and billing service. (https://checkout.google.com) 5. If your Google Checkout account has multiple credit card accounts, select one account. 6. Select the Terms of Service link and read the document. When you are done, press BACK. 7. If you agree with the terms of service for Google Checkout, select the check box. 8. Touch Buy now at the bottom of the screen. Android downloads the application When the download and installation are complete, your status bar displays . 48

  49. Android Market – Request a refund Request a refund (within 24 hours of purchase) • To refund an application 1. In Android Market Home, touch My downloads. 2. Touch the application that you want to uninstall. 3. In the Uninstall & refund dialog box, touch OK. If the dialog box does not appear, your trial period has expired. (24 hours) 4. In the survey form, select the answer that best matches your reason, and touch OK

Android Market – Uninstalling an application Uninstalling an application Select an item to uninstall • To uninstall an application You can uninstall any application that you have downloaded and installed from Android Market. 1. On the downloads screen, touch the application you want to uninstall, then touch Uninstall. 2. When prompted, touch OK to remove the application on your phone. 3. Choose the reason for removing the application, then touch OK. 50
