  2. What is a drought? A drought occurs when an area or region experiences a deficiency in its natural water supply.

  3. What causes a drought? Droughts are caused by a shortage or below average amount of rainfall. Droughts can also be caused by using too much of a nation’s water supply for agricultural purposes.

  6. What areas of the world experience the effects of droughts? Droughts effect the environments and people of Asia, Australia, Africa, Europe, North America, and South America.

  7. In what regions of Africa are people most effected by drought? The Sahel, East Africa, and Southeastern Africa are the areas most affected by drought.

  8. How do droughts effect the lives of the people of Africa? Combined with other factors, droughts have led to the destruction of hundreds of millions of acres of land used for farming and grazing.
