  1. Ear Candling

  2. History • Its ancient origins come to us from the Native American Indians, the Chinese, Egyptian, Mayan cultures.

  3. What is Ear Candling ? • Ear Candling is a natural, non-intrusive procedure that may help alleviate the painful effects of chronic headaches or sinus conditions, ear infections, allergies as well as minor hearing loss due to excessive earwax build up.

  4. Ear Wax • Ear wax is a sticky liquid secreted by cerumen glands. Ear wax, sticky stuff that it is, traps anything foreign that flies, crawls, or is blown into the ear canals. Dirt, tiny bits of plant material, small insects, bacteria, and so forth are immobilized by wax. The primary purpose of ear wax is to protect your ear canal and ear drum from such foreign materials.

  5. What does it help with ?

  6. Dry hacking cough • Many coughs are a direct result of a sinus infection. The inner ear and small sinus cavities get blocked with mucus and infection sets in. Ear Candling helps drain and dry out the small, dark places where germs live and multiply.

  7. Sinus headaches • Blockages in the inner ear or sinus cavities can cause pressure to build. Ear Candling can help to open blocked passages.

  8. Tinitus • Ringing in the ears can be a cause of dehydration coupled with wax buildup. Drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of pure water per day. Then the Ear Candling procedure can help break down the wax.

  9. Itchy ears • This could be caused from an abundance of yeast in the body, creating a situation of Candida (too much sugar in the body). The Candida starting in the intestines and traveling up into the eustashion tube, can get into the sinus and ear canal. Ear Candling helps to dry out these areas.

  13. Frequently Asked Questions

  14. Is ear candling for everyone? • No! You should not have ear candling performed if you have any damage to the eardrum, ear tubes, congenital hearing loss, or recent surgical procedures to the ear. • What can I expect after an ear candling session? • You may, for a short time, feel a bit of pressure in your ears following a session. This is normal. We recommend you not fly or get fluid in your ears for 24 hours after a candling session. • Is it guaranteed to work? • While many find ear candling to be an effective procedure, everyone is different and we can't guarantee results.

  15. How often should I have ear candling done? • It’s good to do the procedure quarterly or twice a year. If you feel like you may be coming down with a cold or virus, you should candle at that time and the healing process will start right away! This aids the immune system in healing. • Can infants be ear candled? • Absolutely! All age groups may enjoy this procedure. • Is ear candling painful? • Not at all; in fact, many report the experience is surprisingly relaxing and soothing. You may hear crackling sounds during your session - this is normal, and not uncomfortable. • If I buy the candles, can I ear candle myself? • You should always have someone perform this procedure for you, as the flame could be hazardous if not properly managed. As a certified ear hygienist trained in this procedure, I’m familiar with all safety aspects, as well as the proper fitting of the candle and treatment schedules.

  16. After your treatment • It is suggested that at least one candle per ear. As to the frequency some say twice a year while other advocates suggest once a month. Others feel that for severe ear pain/problems, wait at least 48 hours before you do more. It takes the ears about 24 hours to replace their protective coating of wax. It is important that the process not be done on a daily basis.
