  8. The Story… • Located at the University of California • University demolished 2.8 acres of land near the campus to turn it into a parking lot and practice fields • But, it sat for months looking like this….

  9. The neighborhood and “hippies” started to plant trees, flowers, and grass to convert it into a park.

  10. When the park was complete, the “hippies” celebrated and enjoyed their time in the park

  11. The university was not happy and fenced off the entire park

  12. The “hippies” and neighborhood started a rally and over 6,000 marched to the fenced off park

  13. The national guard was sent to the university….

  14. Violence broke out…

  15. One “hippie” was shot near the eyes and is now blind

  16. And one “hippie,” was killed…

  17. This was found flying in the sky after the student, James Rector, was killed …

  18. So what do you think People’s Park looks like today?

  19. Quote from a frustrated young adult living in during the year 1969…

  20. “The 60's was a turbulent decade. The assassination of JFK kept us fixated on the TV for days and gave us an insecurity that other decades had not felt before.

  21. Those of us growing into our own during the 60's were also very much affected by the war in Vietnam. We would all watch the "war lotto" to see which of our friends and loved ones would go across the world to fight in a country that we had not even known had existed.

  22. The 60s was also showing pains from the growing racial issues that faced us all. Segregation, desegregation, marches on Washington. We all needed to become equals.

  23. Many families were separated by what has been termed the "generation gap". Parents not knowing what their children were doing and children learning not to trust anyone over 30.

  24. There was confusion and mistrust between the "straight" and the "heads", music was going in directions that most didn't understand.

  25. The world was spinning out of control and we were all angry about something.

  26. Then for 3 days in 1969 the world stood still…”

  27. Woodstock Festival of 1969!!!
