  2. Conflict Mayor Rahm Emanuel proposed a new public school reform for Chicago, which caused teachers to go on strike. Strikes shut down all public schools until resolved.

  3. Why its important Current Schools are shut down which means kids aren't being educated. Future New reforms and legislation will be passed to benefit the education system and the students. Fair and equal benefits to teachers and staff.

  4. The Goal To reach an agreement between the teachers union and the city of Chicago that will end the strike, but also provide a fair settlement for both parties.

  5. City of Chicago’s side Want to add more time to the existing curriculum Add merit pay Increase the role of standardized testing for teacher evaluations

  6. Teacher union’s side Teachers want a 30% increase in pay over 4 years Added Benefits such as better health insurance Job opportunities for laid of faculty more lenient teacher evaluations

  7. Mediation Karen Lewis Both sides need to compromise on some demands. re-evaluate the length of the school curriculum, and change the policy on teacher evaluations Teachers revise their demands for a raise, and added benefits.
