  2. Info about my Interviewees • For these interviews I interviewed my mom, my grandma, and my great- grandma. All family in these interviews are on my mom’s side. • Mom: She is 37 years old and was born in Chadanooga, TN. • Grandma: She is 63 years old and was born in Charleston, West Virginia. • Great – Grandma: She is 91 years old and was born in Charleston, West, Virginia.

  3. Intro: The purpose of this project is to get perspectives about three different generations of my family and to show how we are shaped by the experiences we have and the people we meet.

  4. 1. Was the U.S. in any wars when you were a child? • Mom: No • Grandma: No • Great- Grandma: No

  5. 2. Who was a famous singer when you were a kid? • Mom: Michael Jackson • Grandma: Paul Anka • Great-Grandma: Natcole King

  6. 3. When you would do something bad what would happen as punishment at you house? • Mom: I would be grounded and have to write pages down from the dictionary. • Grandma: No TV or radio. • Great- Grandma: Spanked

  7. 4.How was school different back then compared to now? • Mom: There were no computers in the classroom, the teachers were allowed to read from the bible, and you could get hit by a ruler for punishment. • Grandma: The schools were smaller and you had to go longer hours. • Great-Grandma: The schools were smaller and had no technology.

  8. 5. Did you have any siblings? • Mom: Yes, a brother Tim. • Grandma: Yes, a brother Jim. • Great-Grandma: Yes, 10 brother and sisters (none living besides her).

  9. 6. What was your favorite after-school activity? • Mom: Playing outside and climbing trees. • Grandma: Playing in the neighborhood with school friends. • Great-Grandma: Playing piano and on occasion playing outside.

  10. 7. Who did you live with when you were a child? • Mom: My parents and Tim. • Grandma: My parents and my brother, Jim. • Great-Grandma: My mom, my dad, and my many siblings.

  11. 8. What was the fashion trend when you were a kid? • Mom: Neon colored clothing. • Grandma: Bobby socks, tennis shoes, and pleated skirts. • Great-Grandma: Battle Oxfords, bobby socks, and poodle skirts.

  12. 9. What was your parent’s occupations? • Mom: Mom was a nurse and dad was a railroad worker. • Grandma: My mother was a stay at home mom and my dad was a draftsman. • Great-Grandma: My mother was a house maker and my father was a grocery store owner.

  13. 10.How many places did you live in? • Mom: Two places; Chadanooga and Cleveland. • Grandma: 1 place; Charleston, WV. • Great-Grandma: 3 places; (only one she can remember) Charleston, WV

  14. My Feelings about the Embracing Heritage project: I enjoyed this project because it helped me better realize how important knowing your family’s past is. I thought it was really interesting to find out how different generations of my family were raised.

  15. Conclusion This project was great to help me realize how people are shaped by the people they meet and the experiences they have. Interviewing 3 different generations of my family helped me better understand my own history also. I now know my family’s past.
