    1. Burns management Fluid resuscitation Wound management Skin grafting

    2. Initial evaluation Should include 4 crucial steps: Airway management Evaluation for other injuries establishing an IV line Estimation of the burn size and starting fluid resuscitation Evaluation for CO poisoning

    3. Fluid resuscitation Burned patient loses fluid because of Oozing of fluid out of the body Evaporation of fluid Third space dehydration

    4. Many formulas exist for calculating fluid requirment during burn resuscitation. The most commonly used formula is the Parkland or Baxtar formula: 3 to 4 mL/kg per percent burned of lactated Ringer's, of which half is given during the first 8 hours postburn, and the remaining half over the subsequent 16 hours. The concept behind the continuous fluid needs are simple.

    5. Why is continuous fluid infusion required??? The burn drives an inflammatory reaction Vasodilation and increased capillary leak. continuous fluid loss!
