  1. Eagle Strike By: Anthony Horowitz Sabrina Ghosh ARP Powerpoint Due: Jan. 31, 2011 Period: 6 & 7

  2. About Anthony Horowitz • Anthony Horowitz was born in 1956 in Stanmore, Middlesex. • Anthony had a very wealthy father, but his father went bankrupt and died. • The rest of his childhood was very unfortunate and miserable, but it provided him with ideas for the Alex Rider series and other books. • He has been writing since age 8 and professionally wrote at age 20. • Horowitz has written the Alex Rider series as well as the Gatekeeper Series, Diamond Brothers series and many more. • He is currently writing Scorpia Rising, the ninth and final book of the Alex Rider series, and he is also writing a new Sherlock Holmes book.

  3. Setting • This book takes place in modern times. • It is set mainly in France and places near France. • The book goes to the destinations of: - South of France - Paris - Cray Industries in Amsterdam - London

  4. Characters • Alex Rider- He is a spy/former spy of MI6. His dad is John Rider and his girlfriend is Sabina Pleasure. He is described as having thin lips, the body of an athlete, and fair hair that’s cut short. He dreams of being a regular school boy. • Sabina Pleasure- She is Alex’s girlfriend. Her dad is a journalist named Edward Pleasure. She meets Alex at Wimbledon and in this book she finds out Alex is a spy. She is described as having dark hair, bright blue eyes and freckles. • Damian Cray- Cray is a very famous actor and has plenty of money. He’s the “bad guy” in the book, Eagle Strike. Damian has done many charitable works and has positive beliefs, but has a darker and more menacing side to him. He is supposed to be very short with dyed black hair. • Yassen Gregorovich- A Russian contract killer who is named to be one of the best assassins in the world. He has the reputation of killing dozens of people, but apparently doesn’t kill children. He was a close friend of Alex Rider’s dad. Yassen dies in the end of Eagle Strike.

  5. Plot • Alex is on vacation in the South of France with Sabina when he runs into Yassen and gets caught. • Alex escapes and goes to MI6 to tell them his findings, but they don’t believe him. • Alex sneaks into Cray Industries to discover what Cray might be up to. He gets caught and escapes once again. • Alex knows something horrible will happen if he doesn’t act soon. At the same time, Sabina is kidnapped by Cray and Alex goes to look for her. Then, they both become prisoners of Cray. • Cray launches extremely powerful nuclear missiles from Air Force One. • Alex defeats Cray and is told by Yassen his destiny will be found if he finds the organization, Scorpia. • In the end, Alex meets Mrs. Jones, the director of MI6, and confirms all the information he found was affirmative.

  6. Conflict and Resolution • The conflict: Alex Rider vs. Damian Cray • Alex isn’t a threat to Damian Cray initially, but Cray later realizes that Alex knows too much about him and his evil plan to destroy the world. Alex is then an immense danger to Damian Cray. Cray plans on killing him once Alex has been completely informed about his smart, but threatening strategies. • The conflict is resolved when Alex defeats and kills Cray along with the bombs he has launched on Air Force One. This is done with the help of Sabina and Yassen.

  7. Theme • The theme of this story is to do what YOU think is best or needed for yourself and others. • Alex did what he thought was best even though others may not have agreed with him. • Alex displayed the theme when he went to go look for Sabina and not tell MI6. He also risked his life several times to search for more information about Cray, even if his close companions told him otherwise. • In the book, it also shows that it is important to act and talk wisely when you have the opportunity to make a change.

  8. Book Review The book Eagle Strike was a book I would recommend to many people! It had mystery, action, and suspense on every page. I suggest this novel to any book readers from the 5th, 6th , and 7thgrade. The book is easy to read, addicting and keeps you anxiously waiting to read the next novel. Eagle Strike can be enjoyed by students interested in spies, action, and saving the world!
