What is PORAC • Peace Officers Research Association of California is an Association of Associations • Membership is currently more than 915 Associations • Approximately 62,000 members • Established in 1953 as a non-profit organization • Run by Peace Officers for Peace Officers • Active or retired in California and Nevada.

Development of I & B Trust In 1963 the concept of offering group insurance plans to the members was presented at the annual conference. • In 1991 the governing committee established the Insurance and Benefit Trust. • Purpose of the Trust is to provide for death, sickness, accident or other benefits to PORAC members or their beneficiaries. • Approximately 62,000 members are Trust Participants.

Long Term Disability Plans • 3 LTD Plans Premier Plus – Pays 70% of 12,857(Pre-disability Earnings) Premium $22.50 Premier -Pays 66 2/3% of $10,500 Premium $19.50 Both plans have $50,000 Death Benefit Basic -Pays 70% of $9,000 (non-occupational) Premium $9.50 Only pay on Non-OCC disabilities. No Death Benefit payable

  34. ADMINISTRATIVE DISCIPLINE COVERAGE Representation in cases arising from an act or omission within scope of employment Note: for an additional $5.00 you can purchase additional non-scope coverage through the administrative hearing process.

CRIMINAL COVERAGE (Only for act or omission within the scope of employment) • Full representation by an experienced criminal attorney. • Triggered by criminal exposure: • Shootings • Death in Custody • Use of Force resulting in serious physical injury • Investigation/allegation of criminal activity • 24 Hours a Day / 7 days a week / 365 days a year.

  36. SCOPE OF CRIMINAL COVERAGE • Begins at the outset of the investigation and continues through trial. • This benefit is available regardless of which agency conducts the investigation. • FBI • State • Local

Civil Coverage • If your employer refuses to represent you; or, • A legal conflict of interest between you and your employer; or, • Inadequate representation by your employer; or, • A considerable likelihood that punitive damages could be awarded against you. • You will be provided with independent counsel by the Legal Defense Fund

  39. CIVIL CASE MONITORING • If your employer defends, but does NOT indemnify (i.e. “reservation of rights”), then: • Experienced Civil Attorney Monitors case. • Watches for Conflicts. • Available to consult with member.
