Mission Statement

Mission Statement. MOS is an employee organization that provides support to our veterans (ie. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard etc.) that have sacrificed so much with their efforts of defending our nation and furthering the cause of peace and freedom around the world.

  1. Mission Statement MOS is an employee organization that provides support to our veterans (ie. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard etc.) that have sacrificed so much with their efforts of defending our nation and furthering the cause of peace and freedom around the world. MOS membership is open to all Federal works: Active, Retired and/or Contractors.

  2. Purpose of MOS • Provide a forum so the unique needs of veterans employed by the government can be identified, addressed and communicated. • Someone with a disability, what are their options? • Reservist called to active duty: • How is their pay affected? • How is their leave affected? • How to get credit for military service towards government pension?

  3. Purpose of MOS(Continued) MOS is a voice for veterans: MOS gets together with the National EEO and IRS Recruitment offices to provide guidance for veteran’s issues and make recommendations that affect policy and procedures.

  4. Purpose of MOS(Continued) • MOS Boot CAMP mentor program helps veterans with: • Applications • Interview skills • Leadership skills • Communication skills

  5. Purpose of MOS(Continued) • MOS helps spread the word: • When the VA makes changes to veteran’s benefits MOS makes sure veterans hear about it. • Via Email - MOS alerts veterans of job openings and email scams. • WWW. MOS-IRS.ORG

  9. In April we visited the George E Wahlen Veterans and spent the afternoon playing • bingo. We also distributed cards written by the 5th grade class from Burton • Elementary school in Kaysville, Ut. • “Christmas in July” care package drive. Compliance wide (Scowcroft and Lincoln • Center buildings.) We sent 37 boxes to four soldiers in Afghanistan: • COP Sayedabad Last year on the eve of the 10th anniversary of 9/11, • in a symbolic gesture, a truck bomber destroyed half the COP. 75 U.S. soldiers were injured. • This base is seven miles from Tangi Valley, where the 30 navy seals were shot down. • 325th CSH LTC Daniel Alston is a Lieutenant Colonel stationed at a • Combat Support Hospital. • FOB Kunduz Stephen Alston is the son of Daniel Alston. He is a SGT • with the D company in Northern Afghanistan. • COP Arian Tim Heiner is a SPC with the with the 504th Parachute • Airborne InfantryRegiment (504th PIR). He is at an Amy base • near Kandahar in southern Afghanistan and drives an armored truck. He is doing a 8 month deployment and will be home in • November. He has six children all under the age of nine. Two sets of twins.

  10. M.O.S.T. Current Activities • Lunch and Learn: Campus wide. Bringing in speakers (Service dog trainers, soldiers back from Afghanistan/Iraq) • CFC Campaign: Sponsor and bring a Veteran’s charity to the Ogden campus. • National is sponsoring a nation-wide Veteran’s day event. More information to come. • For Christmas: • Campus wide - “Stockings for Soldiers” care package drive for the soldiers in Afghanistan. • George E Wahlen Veterans home: • More information to come on this • Enlist the help of school children to write Christmas cards to the Wounded Warriers at the Walter Reed Medical Center.
