  2. Outcome for Today’s Webinar • Develop (one or more) Peer Learning Conference workshop proposals that are selected for the 2010 PLC

  3. This Year’s Proposal Application Format • Walking our (backwards design) talk

  4. Conference Outcome • Doesn’t need to be referenced in the proposal • Conference Outcome: As a member of the Gateway to College National Network, develop and sustain a culture of excellence at the organization, program, classroom, and individual levels

  5. Supporting Outcomes • Each workshop should be designed to address all or part of one of the specified supporting outcomes • A workshop could address multiple outcomes • Intended Supporting Outcomes: • 1. Design integrated, thematic, project-based curricula • 2. Use learner-centered instructional and student support strategies to increase student success • 3. Build on and refine the vision for what students need to know and be able to do in order to be successful in college • 4. Use the cycle of inquiry to make data-driven decisions at the program and classroom levels • 5. Use solution-focused techniques in regular, focused, one-on-one meetings with students • 6. Hire, develop, and maintain a collaborative team that creates and delivers effective instruction grounded in intensive support • 7. (For our student participants) Use student leadership skills to advance the culture of excellence at a local Gateway program

Successful Proposals Will: • Clearly address the conference theme • Clearly address one or more of the supporting outcomes • Clearly address one or more concepts or skills that are relevant to the outcome • Describe how learning will be demonstrated • Employ active learning methods • Be planned for 60 or 90 minutes • Be immediately applicable for participants • Contribute to a diversity of workshop formats

Completing the Workshop Proposal Application • Outcomes and Content • Should prepare participants to achieve all or part of one or more of the supporting outcomes • Must help participants understand concepts or develop skills that are directly related to the outcome(s) • See the Call for Workshop Proposals document for examples • Proposals that address multiples concepts and/or skills will be more competitive • May also prepare participants to resolve issues related to the outcome(s)

Completing the Workshop Proposal Application • Demonstrating Learning • Proposals should indicate how participants will demonstrate what they will learn • Types of Workshops • Skill building – proposals should identify the processes and/or tools participants will leave with • Case study – using a story, incident, experience, etc. as the basis for helping participants learn new concepts, skills, methods, etc. • Other

Completing the Workshop Proposal Application • Activities • Clear, concise descriptions • Materials or Technology • Everything you will need but not be able to provide • We might need to discuss some requests • Description • Half-page, ready to be printed in conference brochures or other materials

  12. Submitting Your Workshop Proposal Application • Must be emailed to Stephen Rice (srice@gatewaytocollege.org) • Due by 5:00 pm Pacific Time, Monday, May 10th.

  13. Next Steps • You will receive a response to your proposal by Monday, May 17th. • If your proposal is selected, a final workshop outline is due by 5:00 PM Pacific Time, Friday June 11th
