  2. Political Figures • Richard Nixon was born on January 9, 1913 and became the 37th president of the United States. His term ran from 1969 to 1974. He was also the first president to resign from office. • Mao Zedong (Mao Tse-tung) was a Chinese Communist advocate. Founder of the People’s Republic of China and ruled the country as chairman of the “Communist Party of China”.

  3. Trends and Fads • Muscle cars were very popular back then because that was just the thing. Everybody in Hollywood had one so that meant you had to as well. They made you look good no matter what you personally looked like… • Creepy Crawlers was a fun toy to play with. You could make bugs to scare your siblings with or your friends!

  4. Speeches/Quotes Crook Speech-Nixon: Claimed to not be involved with the breaking and entering of five men into the Democratic National Committee which was in favor of the reelection of Richard Nixon. Resignation Speech-Nixon: Because the public did not believe him and evidence pointed toward his involvement, before he could be impeached, Nixon resigned from office.

  7. Sports • Dorothy Hamill was the winner of ladies’ figure skating . She was presented with the gold medal at the 1976 Winter Olympics • Bruce Jenner, in 1976, won the decathlon event at the ‘76 Winter games held in Montreal, Canada. • Golfer Jack Nicklaus consistently won pro tournaments such as the U.S. Open and Masters

  8. Scientists/Inventors This decade marked the time when police departments began to utilize computers. Computers were dispersed amongst departments, therefore making their jobs easier and faster. No more hand written citations and whatnot, they could now be stored digitally.

  9. Art The ‘70s was an interesting time for males in the art industry because females also in the industry also began an up rise with the Feminist Art Movement. Women claimed that for a long time, practically since the beginning of time, men have always portrayed themselves as superior over women in art. Whether it be a picture of a family or a flinging romance, men always showed themselves as “in control” and women of the ‘60s and ’70s did not like this so they chose to display their thoughts, their way.

  11. Historical Events THIS JUST IN, THIS JUST IN!! The Beatles had finally disbanded due to their first and ever loved, manager Brian Epstein’s passing. They did not know what to do after Mr. Epstein was deceased because he was the man to make them who they were. So slowly they left the band although they tried to work things out.

  12. Business/Industries Sadly enough, yet still very surprising, the automobile industry began to fail. There was inflation, high interest rates, price control, yes that’s right REGULATED prices for cars that could not be of high quality but car dealers would have you paying high prices for them. Later in “1973-1974, and 1979…U.S. automakers faced more competition from foreign manufacturers”

  13. Wars/Conflicts A group of five Palestinians decided to hijack five planes that were arriving from Belgium, Switzerland, Greece, Israel, and India. They took the planes and met at Dawson’s Field, let out all the non-Jewish people and held 56 Jewish people hostage. This terrorist attack finally ended when an agreement was made by the Jordan (Middle East) government to release four of the terrorists members from jail.
