1. SHARK WEEK September 23rd- September 26th Character Trait : Honesty Unit Objectives: Reading: This week we will continue to explore and identify main characters within fiction stories. The students will learn to make connections to the fiction texts. (Connection types: text to self, text to world, and text to text) The students will also use evidence from the stories to retell them and answer and complete comprehension questions and activities. Comprehension Test Writing: Students will learn to compose a narrative with a self selected topic. They will be able to identify and include synonyms in their writing. Writing and Grammar (Synonyms) Grades Spelling: No Spelling words this week… Math : This week’s focus will be wrapping up our lesson on mental math addition strategies with ways to make 10 out of addition problems . We will begin our introduction to subtraction strategies by reviewing the addition strategies previously taught and applying them to subtraction. Subtraction Quiz Science: We will continue our discussion on the basic needs of organisms. The students will continue to examine the needs of plants and animals through scientific exploration. Social Studies: We will begin to explore simple geographic tools such as maps, globes, and orientation (north, south, east, west), legend/map keys. No juice, colored liquids or milk. This will prevent ants and other unwanted critters. Also, please be sure their water has lids or sports tops. THANKS! • Please send only healthy, dry, finger-food type snacks with your child as we are still working during snack time. Snack time is at 2:00 p.m. • Please notify your child’s teacher in writing of any transportation changes. (Parents time your children to make sure they can complete all the problems correctly in 5 minutes or less.) Tuesday – Reading / Writing: Write a Text to World (T-W), Text to Self (T-S), and Text to Text Connection (T-T). Use the books you read nightly to help you with this homework assignment. Wednesday – Reading: Read and answer the questions in your Scholastic News. Thursday – Math: Create 5 math problems using 3 addends in each of them. Friday - No homework – enjoy your weekend!!
