  2. Macular degeneration? • Effects the elderly • A build up of deposits called drusen on Macula • Creates blind spot • Peripheral Vision is typically not effected.

  3. Solution • Visioncare Inc. • Implantable Miniture Telescope (IMT) • 35 min Surgery

  4. How it works • Implant is able to magnify the vision to about 2.5 times its original size • Makes picture big enough that you can see around the blind spot • Takes away peripheral vision

  5. Benefits • Ability to recognize faces is restored • Able to read • Ability to perform daily activities, cooking cleaning, etc.

  6. Side effects • Cornea swelling • Cornea implant • Extensive therapy for proper use

  7. Future • An implant of less cost (current: $15,000) • Solution that corrects the problem rather than just going around it • A more general solution
