At the Harvard-Smithsonian Summit on April 15, 2010, Mark Doyle from the American Physical Society outlined recent advancements at APS journals. Significant updates include transitioning all journal content to a newly rewritten APS journal platform and implementing a Solr-based search engine. Other enhancements feature a new reference database and APS Journal accounts that streamline user services. Collaboration focuses on integrating ORCID for researcher IDs and improving data exchange through partnerships with INSPIRE, ADS, and arXiv, positioning APS as a leader in modern research dissemination.

APS Update HEP Information Providers Summit Harvard-Smithsonian April 15, 2010 Mark Doyle, American Physical Society
Recent changes at APS journals • Moved all our journal content to our (rewritten) APS journal platform (we always hosted PROLA) • New search engine (Solr based) • New reference database (hadoop, almost complete) • Research data sets (update coming) • Introduced APS Journal accounts – single account to be used for author, referee, and reader, services. Working on member services as well. • MathJax, STIX • Library of Congress electronic deposit • Physics continues to mature
ORCID • Open Researcher and Contributor ID • Very broad collaboration to create an open system for researcher IDs • APS heavily involved in Technical Working Group and Privacy Working Group. • High energy physics a likely target for prototype system (many key HEP players represented in TWG and its various subgroups – can exercise all aspects of the system) • Stay tuned….
Areas of Cooperation • Data exchange with INSPIRE • Integration with new INSPIRE APIs (and ADS and arXiv etc.) for external and internal APS applications • Work to make ORCID an integral part of the information flow • Collaboration metadata
