  1. Teaching Opportunities in MMB How to keep yourself solvent while doing a Ph.D.

Do you want to…. • Introduce young undergraduates to the wonderful world of molecular biology, nutrition, microbiology or biochemistry? • Explain cutting edge research techniques to new students? • Help shape the minds of the next generation of scientists? • Impart your wisdom on the fundamentals of our disciplines?

  3. Do you want to…. Earn some money $$$$ to support yourself during your Ph.D.?

  4. While earning money, you will… • Brush up on your basic science • Get valuable teaching experience (looks good on the CV) • Fine tune your presentation skills • Get to know students who may well end up doing Honours in your lab • You will most likely find that you actually enjoy teaching!!

  5. Teaching at MMB • The rates are good • There are plenty of courses (everything from 1st year MBLG to 3rd year courses) • Flexibility about time slots (we can do mornings or afternoons)

  6. Rates • The demonstrating rate is ~$40 per h • Different courses pay differently, depending on • Length of the prac session • Responsibility • Repeat • Marking

  7. BCHM & MBLG CoursesYrs 1 & 2 • MBLG1 runs every afternoon in semester 2. Each class is on a fortnightly cycle • MBLG2 runs most afternoons on a fortnightly cycle in semester 1 • BCHM2 courses also run most afternoons on a weekly cycle, in both semesters • BMED2 and PHAR2 courses run in the mornings in semester 1. • BMED2 also has 3 prac sessions in semester 2 in the mornings.

  8. BCHM & MBLG CoursesYrs 3 and above • BCHM3 runs Mon-Thu in the mornings (10am-2pm), in both semesters and Fri (10am-2pm) in semester 2.Teaching is in blocks, for example,Mon & Tue, Weeks 4 and 6 • USMP/USDP sessions at various times in both semesters
