Introduction to Year 6/7 Class and Learning Resources

Welcome to my class at Quairading District High School! I’ve spent three years teaching upper primary students (Years 6/7) and providing guidance in PE and ICT. Communication is key—stay updated through our class blog and via email. Homework is assigned weekly, and I’m here to support your child's progress. Behavior management includes a rewards system using Class Dojo. Our curriculum covers literacy, maths, and science, all aligned with the Australian curriculum. I’m excited for a year filled with engaging learning experiences!

  2. About Me I’s spent the past 3 years at Quairading District High School Teaching upper primary (6/7’s),PE (pp-10) and ICT pp-10 & coaching staff.

Communication • Class blog – misswilson5pally.com • Email – rebecca.wilson@education.wa.edu.au • Homework – if your child can’t get their homework completed by Friday just send a quick note with them Friday morning and either and they won’t be left out of the Friday afternoon rewards. • Parent/Teacher Conferences – I will be sending home a note towards the end of the term about a quick catch up to discuss your childs progress.

  4. Behaviour Management • Earn points using Class Dojo. (Parents can login to view progress) • Points convert to Kids Bucks. Kids Bucks are used to purchase prizes or Coupons. • Students can loose points on Dojo for negative behaviours.

  5. Homework • Handed out Mondays and discussed in class. • Homework should be completed and handed in before Friday. • Studying for Unit tests • Reading at home • Incomplete homework without note will be recorded. Two strikes and parent/s will be contacted. • Pickles and ketchups as an incentive for Friday afternoon.

  7. Literacy Spelling – Sound Waves: Look,cover,write,check Daily. Post test on unit from previous week each Monday. • Planning and programs have been developed based on the Australian Curriculum and the content descriptors for Year 5 • Reader’s Workshop • Writer’s Workshop • Increasing fluency and text complexity. • Digging Deeper into text through writing and responding to literature. • Grammar and vocab will be built in to literacy lessons.

  8. Maths • Guided Maths • Hands-on learning • Rocket Math (timed tests) • Multiplication (times tables) • Creating Critical Thinkers Through Problem Solving – explicit teaching of strategies. Planning and programs have been developed based on the Australian Curriculum and the content descriptors for Year 5

  9. Science & S&E Program has been designed using Australian curriculum content descriptors. • Term 1 – Chemical Science • Term 2 – Physical Science • Generally no homework other than studying for a unit test • Study Guides will be posted on the class blog

  10. Testing • NAPLAN – Term 2 Week 3 • Writing • Reading • Language Conventions • Numeracy • WAMSE – August?? • S&E and Science
