In this session, participants will develop an actionable plan to garner support for their association’s proposal. They will work in pairs using a structured template to establish goals, identify 3-4 key objectives, and strategize on how to achieve them within set timelines. Additionally, participants will engage in small group discussions to highlight regional challenges and common goals, fostering collaboration on cross-border issues. This session aims to equip participants with practical tools to effectively advocate for their proposals and enhance regional cooperation.

DAY 4 Session 2 Taking it home: An Action plan
Outcomes for participants At the end of this session participants should be able to: • Develop an action plan for gaining support for their association’s proposal
Action Plan – worked example Consider the handout – an example of the people you might need to gain support from for your proposal and how to go about this.
Activity – Action plan to gain support 15 mins • Your development proposal is now complete. Next step is to take it home and gain support for it – an action plan • Using the template, work in association pairs to complete it: • goal is to gain support for the proposal • identify 3 or 4 objectives to help achieve the goal • for each person identify strategies • set timelines
Activity – Regional challenges, identifying a regional goal 30 mins • Work in small groups • Associations to share their issues with the group. (Each group to identify a reporter, who will report back to the whole group at the end of the session.) • Identify a common issue that might be a worthwhile regional goal. (10 mins) • What might be some useful strategies for cross border cooperation on this issue? (10 mins) • Write these down as they will form the basis of discussion in session 4 – developing a blueprint for regional collaboration. • Reconvene as a whole group. The reporter for each group is to report to the whole group on the potential common goal they identified. Facilitator/trainer to note these on the board. (10 mins)
