Improving Thermo-Cooler Controller Performance Through Linearization

In our recent project on the Thermo-Cooler Controller, we encountered challenges implementing active lag, which was disappointing. However, we see this as a learning opportunity. Our final improvement is linearizing the output of the temperature-measuring subsystem. Current assignments include testing the linearizing circuit in a vacuum without compensation and exploring options such as gain compensation and passive lag compensation. We will compare temperature measurements with and without the linearizing circuit to demonstrate its effectiveness. A comprehensive write-up will follow.

  1. Thermo-Cooler Controller Kiefer, Mary, Molly, Sam

  2. Update • Did not successfully implement active lag • We are disappointed, but chins up—we can improve our current system and write a fantastic write-up • Final improvement to the system: • Linearizing the output of our temperature-measuring subsystem

  3. Current Assignments • Linearizing circuit • Will repeat tests in vacuum today • No compensation – just feedback • Gain compensation • Passive lag compensation • Gain + lag compensation • Test to show temperature measurements with vs. without linearizing circuit • Write-Up
