  1. Thermo-Cooler Controller Kiefer, Mary, Molly, Sam

  2. Final SOW We will create a robust controller system that reduces, filters, and controls a 12V signal to regulate a thermoelectric cooler to cool the cold side temperature down to 200K (+/- .1K) in less than five minutes.

  3. WBS • 1. Research • A. Basic Thermodynamics, Thermoelectrics, PCB basics, Transport • B. Papers on modeling TECs • C. Literature on Controller Systems (PID/PWM) • D. Look at parts we need (TEC, temp sensor, components for vacuum setup) • 2. Software • A. Virtual Model • B. Software Model • C. Basic PID control (step-by-step, if statements—think forced PID control) • D. Software Testing (test different controllers) • E. Software Tweaking

  4. WBS (cont.) • 3. Hardware • A. Order parts from TE Technology • B. Order parts for vacuum setup • C. Design Circuit (temp sensor, PIC) • D. Program PIC • E. Build baseplate with electrical feedthrough • F. USB connection (SWHW interface) • G. Build Circuit • H. Connect SW, connection, HW together • 4. Testing • A. First run on real TEC • B. Tweak and Test and Tweak and Test

  5. WBS (cont). • 5. Other • A. Website • i. Functional—access to documentation • ii. Learn html/CSS • iii. Design actual website • iv. Create actual website • v. Modify (daily posts) • B. Final Report • i. SOW • ii. PERT • iii. Track progress • iv. Compile documentation

  6. PERT Re-directing your attention to an Excel Sheet

  7. Current Assignments • Order parts by today • Waiting on info about P-card • Hope our parts come sooner rather than later • Work on software controller • Design circuit • Design USB connection
