  1. THE HUNGER GOAL Progress on MDG 1 is fundamental to the success of all other Millennium Development Goals. MDG 5: Hunger increases the risk of women dying in child birth, and a healthy mother is absolutely vital to a healthy family. MDG 6: Poor nutrition is the single most important threat to global health, 11% of global diseases are related to malnutrition. MDG 7: The majority of hungry people in the developing world work in agriculture—a sector that requires sustainable solutions. MDG 8: It is possible to end global hunger, but partnerships between countries of all incomes are key to making it a reality. MDG 3: Women and girls are half the world’s population but represent 60 percent of people who are hungry. MDG 4: Hunger is linked to a third of all deaths in children under 5. You can’t reduce child mortality without first reducing hunger. MDG 2: When food is scarce, parents may have to pull children out of school and send them to work to keep the family going.
