  2. The FondazioneMondo Digitale Brief Description Fondazione Mondo Digitale is a NGO founded by the Municipality of Rome, Lazio Region and ICT companies as, Intel, Acea, Unisys, Wind ect. Core mission To spread the benefits of the use of the newest ICTs among schools and learning environments In this respect, over the past 6 years it has been leading relevant educational initiatives at local/national/international level, one of the most important initiatives is the project “Grandfathers on Internet”.

  3. Project SilverStimulating ICT Learning for Active EU Elders Project Silver addresses both of these situations by implementing a systemic approach, which identifies an innovative didactic ingredient, a trans/inter-disciplinary and generational element, and aims to solve this new form of illiteracy to contrast the risk of a social and communicative caesura between the young and the elderly.

  11. Older People – Difficulties, Opportunities and Benefits of Project SILVER The opportunities of Internet seems to be very stimulating for older people, rather than just the PC functions and programmes. The elders that have attended the courses have different cultural background and life experiences, but they share a strong motivation and curiosity for this “new world” and the opportunities it can bring to their lives. “...to open new horizons, a new world...” (IPSIA De Amicis – grandmother)

  12. Personalized Intergenerational Understanding and Approach to Teaching/learning It clearly came out that the old and the young working together allows for a collaborative learning and reciprocal knowledge, something necessary for the social development of communities. “...to be cautious to make judgments...” (IPSIA De Amicis – grandmother)

  13. The Importance of Social and Human Capital The Fondazione Mondo Digitale has played a central role in creating local networks among schools and older people’s centres in the city of Rome. The programme “Grandparents on the Internet” has allowed both (a) the capitalization of the “social and human capital” that the Foundation has developed in the long run, and (b) the provision of the proper environment to promote and monitor ICT learning processes.
