  1. Bell Work Use the right arrow button to advance through the presentation Sep 27, 2013 SPI 0807.T.E.1(Prototype Testing) SPI 0807.T/E.2 (Eng. Design Process) • On your paper, fill in the blanks concerning the 5 steps of • the Engineering Design Process as shown below. (see p • Step 1: Identify a ________________. • Step 2: Develop possible ___________. • Step 3: Make a ____________. • Step 4: _________ the prototype. • Step 5: ___________ and then re-test the prototype.

  2. SPI 0807.T.E.1(Prototype Testing) SPI 0807.T/E.2 (Eng. Design Process) Notes SPI 0807.T/E.1 Identify the tools and procedures needed to test the design features of a prototype (1) (5) (2) Steps 4 and 5 are the steps of the EDP where we test our prototypes (3) (4)

  3. SPI 0807.T/E.1 (Prototype Testing) Notes • Engineering Design Process-Prototype Testing • The 4th step in the eng. design process is testing your prototype • Often, the prototype does not work very well at first • Testing a prototype can be dangerous (see picture below) • By testing the prototype, the designers find problems to fix • They fix problems then test it again. They repeat this over & over. (This is step 5 of the eng design process.) Here is a picture of Orville and Wilbur Wright testing their prototype airplane

  4. SPI 0807.T/E.1 (Prototype Testing) Notes SPI 0807.T/E.1 Identify the tools and procedures needed to test the design features of a prototype • The procedures and tools for testing a prototype are dependent • upon the type of technology and the purpose for that technology. • For Example: You would not test a new cell phone the same way you would test a new jet airplane or a new football helmet. • Answer These Questions On Your Paper: • A) How would you test a cell phone prototype? • B) What tools would you use to test this cell phone? • C) How would you test a jet airplane prototype? • D) What tools would you use to test this jet airplane? • E) How would you test a football helmet prototype? • F) What tools would you use to test this jet airplane?
