Introduction • OpenBook is a collection of examples of creative initiatives in the Mediterranean Region (90 pages the EN version) • The idea of this collecting book was to present different initiatives remarkably done in CREAMED partners’ regions around creativity • The book includes: • 8 experts views and visions • 18 local initiatives/programs cases • 9 enterpreneur’s concepts • 8 cases from anything creative to be highlighted

Design Thinking Design doesn’t concern only eccentric shapes of furnitures, jewels, luxury cars, etc Design thinking concerns a user-centered approach that redesigns inside out the whole approach to functinality and use Design belongs to the triad of “creative” functions in most companies together with R&D and marketing 3 French organisations set up a one year experimental programm aiming to promote design thinking to the SMEs.....

Gene’s ink case study Gene produces special inks with photoelectric, luminescent and photovoltaic properties The expert designer adviced them to look deeper into the communication capabilities of these inks to create new services and 5 new domains were identified: body/skin/clothes, interior design, culture, packaging, signposting

Creativity and Innovation are human activities and as such they require carefully designed spaces that take into account the varius ways ideas can be generated, hatched, shared, improved and tested. Although creativity is an emerged property that can only be secreted by an individual brain, the funny thing is that is fueled by social and and collective interactions. Provence Alpes Cote d’Azur tests 3 different types of such places (coworking spaces, places to blend expertise and develop prototypes, places to attract short-term high potentional guests from all around the world

  8. Biodiesel from cooking oil... An innovative idea of new green technology producing diesel from residual feedstock developed at CERTH by Stella Bezergianni The technology is based on catalytic hydro treatment that is widely used to upgrade petroleum products Demostration project: A large ammount of waste cooking oil was collected and converted to new diesel in a sufficient quantity to fuel a garbage truck from Thessaloniki city for a few months It is estimated that the waste cooking oil can satisfy 10% of the national demand 2nd innovation award in the ‘’Greece innovates’’ competition on 2011
