As governors we aim to: Add Value & Make a Difference by working in partnership with others in the college community, to provide an environment within which students are able to thrive, enjoy college life and aspire to achieve their potential.
Governors include local authority, College staff & Community representatives
The government says: "We know that good governance can make an impact in the classroom and on standards of attainment, quality of teaching and pupil behaviour"
Who can become a school governor? You don't need to have a child at a school to become a governor, all types of people can become school governors No special qualifications are required, but you must be 18 or over on the date when you are elected or appointed and be willing to attend training
What’s in it for you? Being a governor is both challenging and rewarding Children will benefit from your efforts You will learn new skills and work with people from a variety of backgrounds You choose to work in areas of interest such as finance, personnel, and strategic planning You will learn more about how the education system works
What makes a good School Governor? Someone who wants to make a difference to the lives of children The ability to work in a team and help the community A willingness to ask questions and provide a different perspective The time to get involved
