  1. 7th GradeChapter 7 Project Viruses, Bacteria, Protists and Fungi Due: February 12, 2012

  2. What are they? • Viruses are tiny non-living particles that invade and then multiply inside of a living cell. • Bacteria are members of a large group of unicellular microorganisms (prokaryotes)lacking organelles and an organized nucleus, including some that can cause disease. • Protists are eukaryotes that cannot be classified as plants, animals or fungi • Fungi are eukaryotes that have cell walls, are heterotrophsthat feed by absorbing their food and use spores to reproduce,

  3. Part 1 - Choose One of Each • Choose a virus, bacteria, protist, and fungi. Identify your choices with both the scientific name and common name. • Provide the following information: • How does it move? • How does it reproduce? • How does it get its food? • How does it grow?

  4. Part 2 - Make a Model • Make a model of each using materials that you have around the house or that I have in the classroom. • The model can be as large or as small as you would like. However, you must indicate the actual size of the virus or organism. • The model should include all of the parts of the virus or organism • Draw a cross section showing what would be found on the inside of the virus, bacteria, protist, and fungi.

  5. Part 3 - Compare and Contrast • How are the virus, bacteria, protist, and fungi that you chose similar and different? • Things to consider: • Are they all living? • To they make their own food, feed off of others, absorb their food? • Are they alike structurally? • What do they use to move? You only have to compare and contrast your choices!

  6. Scoring Part 1 - 40 points Did you chose one of each? Did you answer all of the questions for each? Part 2 – 40 points Did you make a representative and creative model? Did you include the actual size? Did you draw a cross section? Part 3 – 20 points Were your similarities and difference accurate and thorough? Total: 100 points
